Maryland State Library Stair
The requirement for this project was to design a multi-functioning stair within the Maryland State Library.
For my design I not only wanted to make a stair that was multi-functioning, but also wanted to incorporate the stair into the everyday atmosphere of the library. I began by integrating a shelving system along the back wall to draw more
occupants to the stair. After the occupant arrived at the stair, I wanted he or she to reside on the stair for a portion of time. I also wanted for the stair to serve as not only a means of transportation, but also a place where one can exchange a book, have a conversation, or find seating. Hence, I proceeded to pull the stair off the wall allowing for a closet for return books to be housed. I incorporated seating in multiple portions of the stair as well to ensure that the stair could potentially serve as much more than a staircase.
