Mount Mitchell Interpretive Center
Mount Mitchell Heritage Prairie Park and the prominent hill that carries its name lays in the northeast zone of the Kansas Flint Hills. The Interpretive Centers Program required a minimalist design while still incorporating the
historical significance of the site, with the integration of the prairie acting as an exterior to interior transition piece with minimalist boundaries.

For my design I chose to use a bar scheme to break up the program. While creating spatial extensions into the site with extruding walls and courtyards. I pushed the building up against the crest of the build-able space to sink the
administration bar, therefore hiding its presence from the road. This design idea was then reflected for the exhibition space. To hide it from the observers view while on top of the mount, I raised the entry and event space and angled the roof line to allow in natural light.
